Dean of Medicine from Stellenbosch University Visits Nagasaki University
On October 8, 2025, Professor Elmi Muller, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS) at Stellenbosch University in South Africa, paid a visit to Nagasaki University’s President, Nagayasu Takeshi.
This visit coincided with her participation as a guest speaker in a seminar hosted by the Department of Surgery at Nagasaki University Hospital. During the seminar, Professor Muller presented case studies on organ transplants from HIV-positive donors and shared insights into implementing innovative medical technologies in society.
Professor Muller is internationally recognized for performing the world’s first successful organ transplant from an HIV-positive donor to an HIV-positive recipient. She has long been committed to establishing equitable organ allocation systems and developing guidelines in the field of transplant medicine.

Professor Eguchi Susumu (Department of Surgery, Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences) also joined the meeting, where participants exchanged views on the current state of transplant medicine in various countries.
