Signing Ceremony for the Renewal of the Umbrella Agreement on Cooperation with NOVA University Lisbon Held at the Portugal Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan.
On July 26, 2025, Nagasaki University held a signing ceremony for the renewal of its umbrella agreement on cooperation with NOVA University Lisbon at the Portugal Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan.
The ceremony was attended by key representatives from NOVA University Lisbon, including Rector João Sàágua and Vice-Rector João Amaro de Matos, along with other faculty members. From Nagasaki University, Trustee for Student Affairs and International Affairs Ito Masako and Executive Advisor to the President for Research at Overseas Stations Kaneko Satoshi were present. In the presence of NOVA faculty and Expo officials, Rector João Sàágua signed the agreement.
Following the signing ceremony, a networking reception was held, providing an opportunity to deepen ties with the Ambassador of Portugal to Japan and faculty members from NOVA University Lisbon. Trustee Ito and Executive Advisor to the President Kaneko also joined a guided tour of the Portugal Pavilion and viewed exhibits presented by NOVA University Lisbon, gaining deeper insight into Portuguese culture and the university’s research activities.
The partnership between the two universities has so far focused primarily on student exchange. Moving forward, the collaboration is expected to expand into research exchange, particularly in the field of tropical medicine. This renewed agreement marks a significant step toward strengthening the cooperative relationship between the two universities and enhancing future academic and student exchanges.
