On November 20, 2024, Ambassador Harold Agyeman, Ghana’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, paid a courtesy visit to Nagasaki University.
The meeting was attended by President Nagayasu Takeshi, Professor Yoshida Fumihiko (Director of the Research Center for Nuclear Weapons Abolition), Professor Kawai Kimiaki (Deputy Director of the Research Center for Nuclear Weapons Abolition), and others who gave their opinions on nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation.
Mr. Agyeman, who will chair the third Preparatory Committee for the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty (NPT) Review Conference to be held at UN Headquarters in New York in April to May 2025, touched on nuclear weapons as a global risk and the role of the atomic-bombed city of Nagasaki. Today’s visit proved to be an intriguing and valuable opportunity to learn about nuclear disarmament, peace, and security in the midst of the current state of international affairs.
