Professor Yoshiki Matsushita of the Graduate School of Integrated Science and Technology received the 2023 Japan Fisheries Engineering Award from the Japanese Society of Fisheries Engineering. This is awarded to a member of the Japanese Society of Fisheries Engineering who have made outstanding achievements that contribute to the advancement of fisheries engineering science and technology.
  In the fishing industry, which is an energy-intensive industry, measures to reduce fuel consumption are desired to mitigate the environmental impacts caused by greenhouse gases. His research “Research on Low Environmental Impact Fishing Technology” on reducing the environmental impact of various fisheries through the improvement of fishing technology was recognized. Professor Matsushita has been working on the development of effective energy-saving technologies for squid fishing, purse seine fishing, and bottom trawl fishing, and some of these technologies have been implemented in society.
  The award ceremony and speech were held on May 25 during the 2024 Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Fisheries Engineering held at the Shinagawa Campus of the Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology.
