On June 18, 2024 (Tuesday), a delegation of 46 executives and staff from medical universities and institutions in Thailand, including Professor Pongsak Wannakrairot of Chulalongkorn University School of Medicine, visited Nagasaki University to tour the university’s facilities and take part in a training program.
The purpose of the visit was to enhance members’ knowledge by observing medical education and research achievements as a part of the Medical School Leader Development Program, and was made possible through an offer to Nagasaki University, which has forged an international exchange agreement with the university.
First, Professor Kawakami gave an introduction of the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, then Professor Yanagihara introduced the School of Medicine, followed by Professor Fukuoka who gave a presentation on successful research and training programs. Lastly, Professor Izumikawa gave a presentation on the university’s initiatives regarding infectious diseases.
The tour was followed by an introduction to the Advanced Infectious Disease Research Facility, a tour of the University Hospital’s Infectious Disease Unit, the Special Disaster and Emerging Infectious Disease Triage Unit, the Physician Training Room, the Simulation Center, and finally a presentation on the residency program by Professor Hamada.
The delegation also went on a tour of the University Hospital, which included facilities incorporating state-of-the-art technology and facilities related to resident training. This was followed by a lively question-and-answer session, which spoke to the delegation’s high level of engagement. We hope that this exchange between researchers will lead to more active international exchanges, including student exchanges, in the future.
