On October 9th, 2024, three doctors from Bolivia paid a courtesy visit to President Nagayasu of Nagasaki University.
The three doctors came to Nagasaki University Hospital on May 20th as international students to train to be specialists in gastrointestinal diseases for six months. This program is based on the JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) project “Country-specific training for human resource development in the field of gastrointestinal diseases.” A total of 9 people will be accepted at Nagasaki University Hospital over a period of 3 years starting this year. This first group, which comprised 2 surgeons and 1 internist, received training, particularly in the fields of liver transplants and gastrointestinal endoscopies.
As their training at Nagasaki University Hospital has come to an end, they came to pay a courtesy visit to the university president. They will now move to a hospital in Osaka, where they will continue their training for another six months before returning to Bolivia to work as core members of a new fourth-level hospital which is expected to become the best specialist hospital in the country.
