On February 12, 2026, two physicians from Bolivia, who have been staying in Japan for medical training, paid a courtesy visit to President Nagayasu prior to completing their specialized training at Nagasaki University Hospital.
The physicians have been engaged in approximately nine months of clinical training since June 2025 in the Departments of Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic Surgery and Liver Transplantation, as well as Gastroenterology, as part of the JICA “Country-specific training for human resource development in the field of gastrointestinal diseases.” This program is conducted with the aims to cultivate medical professionals who will play a leading role in the field of gastrointestinal diseases in Bolivia through training at advanced medical institutions in Japan.
During the visit, President Nagayasu expressed his hopes that the knowledge and experience gained through the training would contribute to future medical practice in their home country. The physicians conveyed their appreciation for the learning opportunities provided at Nagasaki University. They are expected to contribute to the advancement of gastrointestinal medicine at a quaternary(fourth-level) care hospital in Bolivia, one of the country’s largest and most highly specialized medical institutions.
