On Monday, December 15, 2025, Dr. Bonnie J. Clark, Professor & Curator of Archaeology and Chair of the Department of Anthropology at the University of Denver, visited Nagasaki University.

Dr. Clark has long led archaeological excavations at the sites of Japanese American incarceration camps during World War II in the United States. In recognition of her significant contributions to promoting mutual understanding between Japan and the United States, she received the Foreign Minister’s Commendation in 2022. In 2024, these sites were designated as a U.S. National Park, making a significant contribution to preserving historical memory.

Her visit to Nagasaki was made possible through her participation as a speaker at the “Nagasaki University 80 Years After the War Memorial Lecture” held on Saturday, December 13 at Dejima Messe Nagasaki. Following the lecture, Dr. Clark met with President NAGAYASU Takeshi, Professor GOTO Seiko (Graduate School of Integrated Science and Technology, Environmental Science), and Professor KANAYA Ichiroh (Graduate School of Integrated Science and Technology, Information and Data Sciences) to exchange views on future collaboration in research and education.

Looking ahead, continued cooperation is expected in a wide range of fields, including international research conferences, academic events, and student exchange programs.
