Visit by the British Ambassador to Japan and Delegation
On June 12, 2025, Her Excellency Ms. Julia Longbottom CMG, British Ambassador to Japan, Mr. Mike Blyth, British Consul-General in Osaka, and their delegation visited Nagasaki University.
From the University, the following members attended the meeting and engaged in discussions: Prof. Ito, Trustee (Student Affairs and International Affairs), Prof. Nishida, Trustee (Strategic Development and Research), Prof. Yamamoto, Vice President (Industry-University Collaboration), Prof. Kita, Dean of the School of Tropical Medicine and Global Health, and Prof. Soyano, Director of the Organization for Marine Science and Technology, among others.
At the outset, both parties expressed their appreciation for the ongoing collaboration and reaffirmed the strong relationship of trust between both sides. The achievements of the Joint Degree Program between the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) and Nagasaki University were revisited, with discussions on exploring new opportunities for partnership with other UK universities and research institutions.
As part of the dialogue, an overview of the Organization for Marine Science and Technology was presented, along with key initiatives such as the “Nagasaki Blue Economy” project—a co-creation hub for the industrialization of aquaculture to promote sustainable marine food production—and the activities of the Industry-Academia Consortium for Higher Education Programme on Offshore Wind (IACOW).
Ambassador Longbottom also introduced the MUSUBI Initiative, aimed at fostering the next generation of UK-Japan leaders and building robust networks. Examples of flexible collaborations between educational institutions and industries in both countries were shared, highlighting new possibilities for future partnerships.
