The Director of the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) visited Nagasaki University
On May 21, 2025, Dr. Robin Geiss, Director of the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR), visited Nagasaki University and held a meeting with President Nagayasu and other faculty.
UNIDIR conducts research and analysis on disarmament and international security, and during this visit, the two sides exchanged views on how to promote future collaboration. President Nagayasu introduced the University’s initiatives in peace education and its track record in collaborative research, expressing strong hopes for enhanced cooperation with UNIDIR.
In response, Director Geiss expressed his intention to deepen cooperation with both the Research Center for Nuclear Weapons Abolition (RECNA) and the Research Center for Global Risk (CGR) at Nagasaki University, emphasizing his commitment to advancing research collaboration. He also touched upon the significant international role expected to be played by Nagasaki as it marks the 80th anniversary of the atomic bombing this year, leading to a meaningful and engaging discussion.
