An arranged version of the traditional Indian festival of Holi was held on Saturday, March 15, at the Campus Mall of Nagasaki University’s Bunkyo Campus. Holi is a Hindu spring festival celebrated primarily in India and is known for its vibrant festivities where people throw colored water and powders at each other to share joy and mark the arrival of spring.
This event was organized by Nagasaki University’s Office for Global Relations, with the support of the Embassy of India, Tokyo, and cooperation of some of our faculty members from India. Over 30 participants, including international and domestic students as well as faculty and staff members, came together to enjoy a lively and engaging experience.
Although rain was forecast for the day, the weather cleared up just before the event began, allowing participants to enjoy Indian confections and chai tea outdoors. The campus was filled with laughter and cheers as students applied colored powder to one another and showed off their dance moves.
This event provided a valuable opportunity for people to connect across cultures. Moving forward, we hope to continue hosting such events to foster intercultural understanding and further promote international exchange on campus.
